Currently, the IP Access Control configuration in Bright Pattern allows administrators to specify ranges for:
-
Agent Desktop and Admin access
-
Privileged Access
-
API Access
However, there is no way to annotate these entries. Admins see only raw IP addresses, making it difficult to know who or what each entry belongs to or why it was added.
Example Use Case:
As a developer, my ISP recycles my home office IP frequently. Every time my IP changes, I must go back into the configuration and guess which entry was mine in order to update it. Without context, there’s a risk of overwriting or removing someone else’s IP range.
Proposed Enhancement:
Add a simple Description (free-text) field alongside each IP entry so administrators can label them. For example:
-
“Paulo – Home Office Dev (dynamic IP)”
-
“AWS Server – nightly sync jobs”
-
“Dallas Office VPN”
Benefits:
-
Clarity & Auditability: Each IP entry shows who/what it belongs to and why it was added.
-
Operational Efficiency: Faster, safer updates when IPs change.
-
Reduced Errors: Prevents accidental edits/removals of the wrong entry.
-
Best Practice Alignment: Many platforms (e.g., AWS, firewalls) already allow notes or labels on access rules.
This small change would make IP access management significantly easier, safer, and more transparent for all administrators.
